How to install Exchange server management tools in windows 7?
Exchange Server 2010 Management tools / console can be installed on a machine that run’s following OS versions.
- Windows 7 SP1
- Windows Server 2008
- Windows Server 2008 R2
- Windows Vista SP2
To install Exchange 2010 SP1 management tools / console you should configure some pre-requisite components on windows 7 SP1.
Firstly download RSAT(Remote Server Administration) tools here. Be cautious before downloading package. Anyone only one package will work for you. most likely package Windows6.1-KB958830-x64-RefreshPkg.msu-239.5 MB will work.
Now you have to Enable Windows 7 features required for Exchange Server 2010 management tools / console.
Open Your control panel, click Programs&Features and then click Turn Windows features on or off. and activate the features.(refer following image).
Restart your computer if it’s required for feature activation.
Download Exchange Server 2010 SP1 setup and extract to your local temp folder.
Now launch setup.exe
If your computer is missing feature like .net framework or windows powershell, there will be links in step 1 & 2.
If you’re done already now goto step 3 and click Install only languages from the DVD.
Now click on step 4 and start installation.
Click Next at the introduction page.
Then accept the license agreement and click Next.
Then choose your preference for Error Reporting and click Next again.
At Installation Type Page select custom installation.Don’t check any checkbox you find that will install roles in your system.
You don’t need any roles to be installed, when you need only Exchange server 2010 management console / tools.
Now select only Management tools role, click next.
After successful completion of Readiness Checks, click install.
After installation is completed you can find exchange management console / tools in Start–>Microsoft Exchange Server 2010–>Exchange Management Console.
