Couldnot connect to the source mailbox

Couldn’t connect to the source mailbox:-

While taking backup of email boxes of user’s, sometimes error message will show up that  “Couldn’t connect to the source mailbox”. This happens because of MAPI is disabled for the user account. To resolve this problem you have to enable MAPI feature for the user, even if it’s a disabled user in your domain network.

The actual error message reflected while using powershell New-MailboxExportRequest command:

Couldn’t connect to the source mailbox.
+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (0:Int32) [New-MailboxExportRequest], RemotePermanentException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : BEE464B8,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.NewMailboxExportRequest

To resolve this problem follow the instructions :

  • open your exchange management console
    exchange management console
    exchange management console

     

  • Open receipient configuration and select the user
  • Goto Mailbox features and enable MAPI function.
    enable MAPI
    enable MAPI

     

  • Now run the mailbox export command again and get it work.

MailboxExport command :

The following command will allow you to store the pst file in remote computer.

[sociallocker]New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox “user@yourdomain.com” -FilePath //remote file path location/user.pst[/sociallocker]

The following command will allow you to store the pst file in local computer.

[sociallocker]New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox “user@yourdomain.com” -FilePath \\local system file path location/user.pst[/sociallocker]
